Analysis of Wavelet Filters in Image Coding using Hybrid Compression Algorithm

Image compression means reducing size of the graphic files, without compromising on its quality. An image compression technique removes redundant data and efficiently encodes, so memory needed for storing necessary information is reduced. In this paper performs data compression for images using hybrid DWT-DCT technique. Standard wavelet filters of Haar, Symlets, Daubechies, Coiflets, BiorSplines, reverse bior were used to estimate compression performance. This method gives preserving most of the image information and the image is reproduced with good quality. Finally standard wavelet filters are compared with 3 different images in encoded section and tabulated the compression ratio, mean square error and peak signal to noise ratio. This result offered that bi-orthogonal wavelet family produced better result with Hybrid compression technique. The performance of these techniques is evaluated using Peak Signal to Noise Ratio (PSNR).
